A day in the life of Heather Gerths

5:30 A.M.

Wake up, brew some coffee and eat an omelet. Going to need my protein and energy to get this day going!

8:00 A.M.

Arrive at work and wish everyone a good morning. Answer the morning's emails and check Facebook.

8:30 A.M.

Receive a phone call from a client who just had a baby; add the baby to their health insurance plan.

9:00 A.M.

Meet with a very sweet couple to discuss their health insurance needs. They are both eligible for Medicare benefits and are interested in a Supplement F plan and a stand-alone prescription drug plan.

10:15 A.M.

Sit down to review health care reform briefings. Trying to keep up on all the happenings ... this situation calls for some more coffee.

11:15 A.M.

Head off to my local Chamber of Commerce board meeting. This is my first year on the board and I love it. We have an opening for an executive director and are beginning the process of interviewing potential candidates. Looking forward to meeting some of the candidates.

1:30 P.M.

Back, and meeting with an employer to review their group health insurance benefits. As an independent agent, I review their current renewal policy and show them various rates with other health carriers to ensure we have them placed in the best policy for their needs and premium dollars.

3:00 P.M.

Visit a new local business that has just opened for a ribbon cutting as part of my work on the Chamber of Commerce. I am president this year and have been part of the group for five years. I drop off a few business cards and talk a bit about the new business' insurance needs.

4:00 P.M.

Take a call from a client that is looking for long-term disability insurance and a long-term care policy.

5:30 P.M.

While putting away my files and shutting down my computer, I take one last phone call from a life insurance client - we need to change a beneficiary on the policy.

6:00 P.M.

Meet some great friends at a local restaurant for dinner and a glass of wine. This place has the best thin crust pizza in town.

7:30 P.M.

The weather is fantastic today, so I head out for a nice evening walk with my husband, John. Spring weather is unpredictable but beautiful this time of year in Iowa.

9:30 P.M.

Putting together my lunch for tomorrow. I have to start eating healthier, especially after I tried to down half of that pizza tonight.

11:00 P.M.

Off to bed to dream all about health reform.

11:05 P.M.

But before bedtime, I must make sure my coffee pot is ready to fire up early tomorrow morning.
