A Day in the life of Ryan Hanley

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

6:00 a.m.

Alarm. Coffee. Oatmeal. Personal email. Google RSS Reader. There is no better way to stay current on the world of digital marketing and insurance than by subscribing to the RSS feeds of industry experts. Learning every day is an enormous part of my life.

7:30 a.m.

Car. ESPN Radio. ... So I have something to talk about at the water cooler.

7:45 a.m.

At the office. More coffee. Work email. Protein bar. I like to have my work email inbox cleared every day before I get going. It's nice to have a fresh start everyday.

8:00 a.m.

Game time. Create content for The Murray Group website. Text, video - whatever that day calls for in my marketing strategy. Hit publish. Share on social media.

9:00 a.m.

Follow-up calls and emails to insurance clients, carrier marketing reps or underwriters on matters outstanding - basically, all the stuff an insurance agent has to do.

11:00 a.m.

Check social media for feedback and responses to content. 'Like,' 'share' and 'connect' with people in the community. Call or email anyone interested in a quote.

11:30 a.m.

Back to the grind. Chicken wrap.

1:00 p.m.

Prepare for afternoon prospecting. Check social media and website for comments, messages or inquires from clients or prospects. Greek yogurt.

1:30 p.m.

Call referrals, call clients that haven't given me a referral in a while, call in-bound leads from digital presence, call prospects that owe me information for a quote. General prospecting work.

3:00 p.m.

Coffee. Check social media. Add small message, share related articles, 'like' posts by clients or prospects. Relationship-building online.

3:30 p.m.

General whatever-needs-to-be-done insurance work. Including all the traditional marketing tactics of an independent insurance agent (i.e. calling referrals, calling people for referrals, faxing stuff, etc.).

4:00 p.m.

Drive home for dinner with my brilliant wife. Local talk radio news - so I have something to talk about at networking events.

6:00 p.m.

Back at the office to work on website and social profiles or create some new content for our digital presence.

7:00 p.m.

More prospecting and information-gathering calls to insurance clients and prospects. Sell them. Make money.

Maybe do a little emailing to people as well.

8:00 p.m.

Processing new applications for proposals and closed business and whatever other paperwork that needs to be done.

I like to do this stuff at the end of the day because it's mindless, terrible work and I'd rather be half zoned-out when I'm doing it.

8:45 p.m.

Back home for a little bit of TV with my lovely wife before we hit the sack.

10:30 p.m.

Lights out.
