A day in the life of Susan Rider

4:59 A.M.

Out of bed before the alarm goes off. Prepare the day's to-do list.

 

6:05 A.M.

Wake up 7-year-old daughter with a kiss. Get her dressed and fed and ready for the day.

 

7 A.M.

Among the first to arrive at the office, begin reviewing and prioritizing 150 emails that arrived overnight.

 

7:30 A.M.

Back in the car. Drive to Pancakes and Politics, a legislative update and schmooze fest with the Indiana Chamber. Update a new legislator on all of the intricacies of PPACA in 10 minutes.

 

8:30 A.M.

Back in the car. Monthly phone call with my mentor on the headset as I drive. Then review 100 fresh emails and six voicemails back at the office.

 

10:12 A.M.

A hot call comes in from an anxious client with an urgent claim issue. An employee injury was not coded properly by the provider, and the payment is wrong. Contact TPA and provider, get the answer.

 

12:15 P.M.

Review renewal with client who is mostly happy that we were able to negotiate the plan with their current carrier down to a 3% increase because their plan is performing well. This came down 6% for initial renewal. Plan for employee education meetings.

 

1 P.M.

Finalize client enrollment materials for enrollment meetings and send print materials for packets.

 

2 P.M.

Conference call with client to finalize PBM implementation. We were able to save more than $100,000 by switching to a new PBM.

 

 

3 P.M.

Conference call with TPA to finalize outstanding items for 2013 implementation. Saved client more than $60,000 just in admin fees, then added a new network and saved another 10% and were able to obtain an online enrollment system (included) to simplify the enrollment process for the HR department.

 

4 P.M.

Conference call with client to discuss LTD claim issue. Issue resolved and claim is being paid.

 

4:45 P.M.

In the car again; conference call on headset as I drive to discuss another claim issue with TPA.

 

5:30 P.M.

Guild meeting with non-profit. Discuss final program ideas to raise funds for a dinner dance in March. I am the co-chair of the event.

 

7:00 P.M.

Arrive home in time for homework with 7 year old. Basic math and some spelling lessons.

 

8:30 P.M.

Check emails and answer time sensitive messages.

 

 

9 P.M.

Watch TV and catch-up with my husband.

 

10 P.M.

Lights out.
