BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina announces the appointment of George P. Reeth as president of Companion Property & Casualty Insurance Group, a subsidiary of BlueCross’ group of companies. With more than 30 years of experience in the industry Reeth was recently the founder of Validus Holdings Ltd. Reeth replaces Charles M. “Charley” Potok who retired this year. Symetra Life Insurance Company today announces that Lora Lyons has been named assistant vice president of group life and disability claims and operations. She will be based in South Windsor, Conn. Lyons joins Symetra from Zurich American Insurance Company in New York City, where she was assistant vice president, Program Service Delivery. XL Insurance announces the expansion of its underwriting capabilities with the appointments of Marcia Blanco and Ursula Williams to its miscellaneous professional liability (MPL) team in San Francisco. Blanco joins as the national practice leader for all MPL business and new product development. Williams joins as an assistant vice president.  Tom Lerche has joined The Vitality Group as senior vice president. He will lend his more than 25 years of industry experience in a variety of areas including account team management, strategy and sales, product development and technical marketing support. Lerche previously served as senior vice president for Aon Hewitt where he was the national leader for health care reform, had key responsibility for development of Aon Hewitt's health insurance exchange strategies. UnitedHealthcare has appointed new leaders for its Hawaii operations. William Guptail was named president but prior to the promotion Guptail served as COO for UnitedHealthcare in Hawaii. David Herndon is now the COO, David Heywood joins as vice president and Dr. Fatima Phillips is now medical director. ... Voluntary Benefits of America launched a new platform for voluntary benefits brokers and consultants www.HighLowOrNo.com last week. This website is the latest evolution of AutoApp, both connected to a central electronic database and designed to eliminate traditional voluntary benefit challenges.
