The U.S. business group of Sun Life Financial Inc. announces it significantly expanded its voluntary benefits sales team with the appointment of 17 dedicated Voluntary Benefits Practice Leaders affiliated with 34 key employee benefits group offices throughout the United States. Coming to Sun Life with significant experience in the voluntary industry, the VPLs will be responsible for supporting Sun Life’s employee benefits representatives. Eight of the 17 new hires will cover East Coast territories, reporting to Sun Life Regional VP Jay Hutchins, while nine will be based on the West Coast, reporting to Sun Life Regional VP Marc Lower. Sun Life recently appointed both Hutchins and Lower, who came to Sun Life from Colonial Life and ING, respectively, as dedicated regional vice presidents under the voluntary benefits division, led by Sun Life’s Voluntary Benefits Vice President Bob Klein. Representing territories across the East Coast will be: Kim Heald, Florida; joining Sun Life from Colonial Life, Chris Holman, North Carolina/South Carolina; joining Sun Life from Colonial Life, Steven Jessup, Baltimore/Richmond; joined Sun Life in 2011 as a Suncare Specialist, Daniel Lathrop, Rochester/Hartford; joined Sun Life in 2009 as an Employee Benefits Representative, Michael Otis, Atlanta/Nashville; joining Sun Life from ING, David Sherman, Philadelphia/New Jersey; joining Sun Life from ARAG Group, Tyler Thims, Boston/Portland, ME; joining Sun Life from Unum, Peter Toth, New York/Long Island; joining Sun Life from Teladoc. CEO Bill Ashley was honored as Person of the Year at Munich Health North American’s annual Health Care Symposium at the end of March in Scottsdale, Ariz. Buck Consultants announces that Tamara M. (Tami) Simon has joined the firm as managing director, knowledge resources. The knowledge resources group is responsible for Buck’s national multi-practice legal analysis and publications, government relations, research, surveys, training and knowledge management.
