NAHU president: ‘We’re in it to win it’

The National Association of Health Underwriters annual conference kicked off Sunday in Atlanta with a message from outgoing president Bruce Benton of California: “We’re going to ride this out.”

In his brief remarks about the past year he reflected on the sentiment of the NAHU community. “In July [2012] our membership was bleeding a little bit,” he said, referencing the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act and election questions lingering in the air. “By January, NAHU was in it to win it. People are starting to get on fire.”

His advice to the members for the year ahead was that “we’re resilient, we adapt to change and we’re going to nail things.”

Janet Trautwein, chief executive officer of NAHU, also talked to the crowd, saying that membership is up by 1,000 members since a year ago.
