Dr. Rajaie Batniji, along with co-founder Ali Diab, launched Collective Health in October 2013 to create a better experience for everyone who touches employer-sponsored health benefits – the 150 million American employees and the huge number of benefits and HR teams who manage them.
Collective Health is a benefits administration platform for self-funded employers. Plan sponsors can log on to the system and access all plan-related data on one central, intuitive platform, while employees are offered a consumer-friendly app and mobile experience for viewing claims information and researching care options.
Combining his deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare system with his health policy and economics background, Batniji has been a guiding force at Collective Health as it has built its integrated technology platform that now serves 30,000 employees from leading companies such as Activision Blizzard, Palantir and Zendesk. The company is expected to process over $200 million in health insurance claims by 2017.
Batniji is the recipient of a Dig|Benefits Technology Innovator Award, a program designed to recognize visionaries who are driving technology innovation in the employee benefits space. Winners will be honored at the Dig|Benefits conference May 19-20 in Austin, Tex.
“Most employer health benefits solutions today are built on 1980s technology and that makes providing great health benefits to their people an inefficient, imprecise and laborious process,” he says. “Technology has a huge role to play in creating a future where employers have full transparency into their health benefits spend, easy access to data and insights which help them make smart decisions for their people, and digital tools to help their employees understand – and value – their benefits.”
For this transformation to happen, he says, “the foundational technology behind better solutions must be modern, flexible and built for real-time data. Over the next 10 years, I expect this type of tech transformation to empower employers to deliver benefits that they’re proud to give their people and to have much more control over what matters to their company.”
